RHYTHM HUNTERS
A dynamite force in world roots music, adored for their frenetic drum choreographies and infectious dance grooves, Rhythm Hunters bring cutting edge physical percussion, western horns, Asian flute, deep grooves and electro beats, making them one of Australia’s most exciting and in-demand festival acts.
Rhythm Hunters have played alongside acts such as Nahko and Medicine for the People, Evermore, Blue King Brown, Tash Sultana and The Melbourne Ska Orchestra. Festival slots include The Woodford Folk Festival, Peats Ridge, The Dreaming, The National Folk Festival, National Multicultural Festival, Winter Magic, Psyfari, Moomba, Jungle Love Festival, Subsonic, Mullumbimby Music Festival, Island Vibes, Illawarra and Cygnet Folk Festivals.
“Rhythm Hunters shone and inspired, the intensity of the drums, combined with the poetics of dance and martial arts was irresistible”.
~ Lisa – Maree Botticelli (Australian Stage Online)
“Rhythm Hunters seems to be a force of nature rather than a grouping of musicians…a show that was so musically engaging and complex that it feels like you have slipped inside an ancient myth or otherworld. I was clearly unprepared for the power of this act.”
~ Steve Gadd – Director Cygnet Folk Festival

Featuring special guests Nicky Bomba + Si Mullumby
Nicky Bomba
A frontman, conductor, musician and percussionist, Nicky’s Solo work is not confined by genres blurring reggae, funk, jazz, calypso and ska into a melting pot of fun, adventure and exotic sounds of the people and places he loves. Best known for his work with the Melbourne Ska Orchestra, Nicky also performs with his bands Bustamento and Bomba, The Truth and previously played with John Butler Trio.
Live performance holds sacred for Nicky who is eternally committed to creating a sense of community and unity whenever he plays. It is not uncommon for Nicky to go off on some magical tangent in order to really connect with an audience. Flying by the seat of his pants is something Nicky welcomes.
“I’m always aware of the active energy of a crowd. Believing in the moment and kind of steering that spontaneous beast can result in something really special. Absolute positive vibrations.”
Known also for his work as a producer, we were lucky enough to spend some time at Nicky’s beautiful Alpine property recording our latest album “It’s Always the Same.. till it’s Different”, with Nicky producing the album.

Si Mullumby (Wild Marmalade)
Leading contemporary didgeridoo player Si Mullumby has pushed the boundaries of what can be done with Australia’s iconic instrument. As a solo act, Si reveals his hidden multi-instrumental self. Combining flamenco guitar, Spanish Cajon and drums, he creates a world music framework to support his unique didgeridoo sound. Musically influenced from 20 years of travelling throughout the globe, Si delivers a unique experience born from choosing to walk the road less travelled.
“An astonishing solo player” ~ Guy Caron – Creative director of Cirque du Soleil

INCREDIBLE LOCATION
The grand arch in Jenolan Caves will host RHYTHM UNDERGROUND. There is no better location for a sound experience, a dance experience, a concert, a party than this huge natural sound resonator, a massive theatre made of stone, a visual spectacle with rugged walls going up and up into the ether where stalactites delicately that hang and bats fly beyond reach. Jenolan is the oldest underground caves system in the world; the acoustics are on par with any of the world’s greatest concert halls but the atmosphere is still and ancient. A sound will be heard indefinitely is bounces of rock up into eventual silence.
Jenolan Caves are the largest, most spectacular and most famous caves in Australia. They are the world’s oldest caves and one of the most outstanding cave systems on the planet. Experience the amazing and award-winning caves tours, adventure caving, scenic bush walks and Australian Aboriginal culture. Glimpse Australian birds and animals in the wild, including kangaroos and platypus. Set in Blue Mountains World Heritage wilderness, Jenolan Caves are a national treasure, of awe-inspiring beauty and scale.
Jenolan Caves is only 3 hours drive from Sydney, nestled deeply in the Blue Mountains World Heritage wilderness.
PLEASE NOTE: The road into The Grand Arch closes at 7.00 pm. The event begins at 8.00 pm sharp. Please aim to be inside the venue no later than 7.00 pm
