Rendra Freestone has been a involved in teaching and/or performance with 'The Warriors for Peace' (Martial Percussion), 'Balai' (Asian Dance Theatre-1992-1995), 'Musik Kabau' (West Sumateran Folk Opera-2001-2003), 'Mandira' (Indonesian Music Ensemble 1991), 'Legs on the wall' (Physical Theatre 2003) since 1990. As a musician with an extensive background in martial arts, Rendra developed a a style know as Martial Percussion (97-2001) performing with a 15 strong troupe at events including the 'Woodford Folk Festival' and 'Sydney Festivals' 99-2000. Rendra's interest in physical approaches to music led to the discovery of & ever deepening relationship with Taiko Drumming (Japanese Festival Drums) which he continues to study & play. Rendra's Indonesian cultural heritage & continual encounters with Asian arts including: fifteen years Tibetan martial training, a degree in Chinese Acupuncture & countless musical projects since a very young age has inspired and led to the initiation of 'The Rhythm Hunters'.
