Rendra Freestone is an infectious and passionate performer.
Starting music at an early age he was immersed in both western and eastern music by age 9. As a teengager Rendra spent much time with traditional folk and electric band music in Australia. Born to his Acehenese mother, Rendra's interest in traditional Indonesian music strating growing before he could understand notes and language.
In the years to come with an extensive background in martial arts, Rendra developed a style know as Martial Percussion (97-2001) performing with a 15 strong troupe at events including the 'Woodford Folk Festival' and 'Sydney Festivals' 99-2000. Since 1990 Rendra has been a involved with 'The Warriors for Peace' (Martial Percussion), 'Balai' (Asian Dance Theatre-1992-1995), 'Musik Kabau' (West Sumateran Folk Opera-2001-2003), 'Mandira' (Indonesian Music Ensemble 1991) and 'Legs on the wall' (Physical Theatre 2003) .
In 2003 Rendra was awarded the Asialink performing arts grant which led him on a musical journey to the remote jungles, mosques and peoples of West Sumatra, Indonesia.
In 2003 Rendra Founded The Rhythm Hunters and in 2004 The Rhythm Hut.
